Geophysical inspection is carried out in order to check the condition of underwater pipelines and platform foundations, search for soil erosion and free spans, the presence of foreign objects and fishing gear, ice gauges detection and measurement. External inspection is performed by side-scan sonar (SSS) and multi-beam echo sounder (MBES). In the case of inspection of buried sections of pipelines, sub bottom profilers (SBP) and marine magnetometers are used to confirm the position of the pipeline under the sea-bed and the depth of buried.
