Operational Features:

High Frequency Vibration. The Geo-Corer is a high frequency, electrically driven vibrocoring system. It can penetrate fast into all common unconsolidated sediments.

Variable Coring Parameters. The two standard configurations are designed to take high quality cores of 6 m or 3 m length, in PVC liners with an internal diameter of 106 mm. High quality cores with generally more than 90 % recovery.

Proven Performance. The Geo-Corer has a proven performance over many years, even in extreme conditions. The very fast penetration rate results in high quality cores with a minimum of sediment disturbance.

Light weight Structure & Small Vessel Operation. This modular system can be assembled manually in 2-3 hours (a crane is required to bring it upright) and can be deployed from a relatively small vessel. The Geo-Corer requires a limited hoisting power of five tonnes maximum.

Pivoting Core Barrel Head. The pivoting head allows rapid change-out of the core barrel and easy retrieval of the core liner.

Deep Water Operation. The Geo-Corer is rated to a maximum water depth of 300 m. It can be upgraded to the pressure-compensated version for operation in water depths down to 600 m and more.

Operational Features:

System Design. The piston correr has a modular design and is available in four  standard lengths of 6 m, 12 m even to 30 m.

Piston Corer Operation. Piston coring has the advantage over gravity coring because it exerts a reduced downward force on the seabed, minimising the disturbance of the sediments.The piston corer uses its free-fall kinetic energy and weight to drive the core barrel into the seabed.

Compatible Consumables. All consumables of the Geo-Piston are compatible withvibrocoring systems: cutting heads, core barrels, liners, caps, core catchers etc.

Working Principle.

Piston corer is deployed in the water and ready for action. Release mechanism is triggered when pilot corer strikes the seabed – piston corer starts its free-fall. Cutting head penetrates sediment and piston removes residual water from above the sediment sample. Core barrel is pushed into the sediment by the core weight as deep as possible, i.e. up to refusal. Piston corer is pulled out and recovered to the surface.

GRAB SAMPLER

Applications:

The Grab Sampler is widely used in fresh and salt water for taking sediment samples from hard bottoms such as sand, gravel, consolidated marl or clay.

Operational Features:

The Grab Sampler is an instrument to sample sediment in the ocean. It is a clamshell bucket made out of stainless steel. Up to 20 cm deep samples of roughly 0.1 m2 can be extracted with this instrument. A draw-back of the use of this sampler is that it tends to disturb the sediments more than a box corer does.

Mechanism.

While letting the instrument down into the water, the two levers with buckets at their ends are spread like an open scissor. The levers are locked in this position, and unlock when hitting the ground. When the rope is pulled upward again, the two buckets close and grab a sample from the sea floor (see the picture).

GEOTECHNICAL LABORATORY

Offshore geotechnical laboratory completed with modern equipment (manufacturer ELE, UK). Data processing also made in the program gINT (Bentley, USA). All equipment and software packages have the necessary licenses and certificates.
